Free DIY Solar Workshops

Demand Energy Equality, with funding from the Postcode Trust, will be running a series of free practical energy workshops for young people in Lewisham. Participants will get to build their own solar-powered phone charger from scratch, while discovering all about what energy is, where it comes from, and how it’s used. Not only will they build a useful gadget that can generate clean electricity, they will also gain key insights into how decisions about energy consumption and generation affects their daily lives.

Our Build Your Own Solar Charger workshop is a very hands-on, accessible workshop that requires no previous knowledge or experience. Our facilitators guide workshop participants through every step of the process, passing on practical skills like soldering and using a multimeter to measure electrical current and voltage. It is a full-day workshop, starting at 10am and finishing at 4.30pm each day.

We are offering these workshops to anyone who lives or works in Lewisham Borough, and who is either unemployed or receiving benefits of any kind. We will be aiming these workshops mainly at under-35s, but all other ages are welcome to sign up.

The workshops will be happening on the following dates:

  • Friday November 2

  • Saturday November 3

  • Friday November 23

  • Saturday November 24

The workshops will be happening at the DEE studio at 59 Ladywell Road, next to Ladywell Station.

If you’d like to attend, but can’t make any of these dates, please fill in the sign-up form with your details and we will contact you if any future dates become available.
